Alumni Programme Promises to Inspire Future STEM Professionals

High quality careers guidance is a core focus at Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre. It allows our students to develop high aspirations and consider a broad and ambitious range of careers. Our most important aim is to support, guide and advise students in order to make them confident, independent and able to make well informed, realistic career decisions. We strive to inspire and motivate our students in all year groups in order to fulfil their potential and engaging with our former students plays an important role in this, with staff regularly holding events which allow former students to share their successes with current students.

Miss Cook, Teacher of Science, is our latest staff member to build on our alumni connections in order to inspire students to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This new project, supported by a grant from the Royal Society of Chemistry sees Miss Cook call upon all former students who have go on to work in a STEM related career to share their experiences. This could be anyone who previously attended the school and who now uses STEM within their role, including engineers, software developers, architects, surgeons, pharmacists, carpenters and individuals within the food, health, beauty, motor, aviation and art industries.

Becoming part of this project means experts in STEM careers will be able to pass on their knowledge and share their experiences with our students, through career profiles, displays, careers events and presentations. The STEM alumni database will allow the academy to continue to connect learners with key professionals in order to raise aspirations.
